Seniors and Dual Credit Students
Seniors, as you prepare for college in the fall, please note that you will most likely be required to have a meningitis vaccine within the last 5 years before you go to college. For most of our students, the last time they had that vaccine was before 7th grade- that was over 5 years ago. Many colleges will require proof of this specific vaccination before they will secure housing for you. This is also a requirement before you can get a schedule at Collin College. If you are unsure of when you had your last meningitis vaccine, please stop by the clinic to request a copy of your shot record. You are also welcome to call or email us and we will be happy to help you. For more information on the meningitis vaccine:
If you have not done so already, make an appointment to speak with your doctor. It is always a good idea to talk to your physician about any health issues or concerns you have in addition to your immunizations as you get ready to leave home for college.
If you do not have insurance or are under insured, the next care van date in McKinney is:
May 17th Thurs. McKinney Lawson Early Childhood Ctr., 500 Dowell St., 75069 5pm-7pm (see links to flyer below)
The vaccines are free to those who do not have insurance or are underinsured through the Carevan. FYI- This vaccine typically costs $130- use this resource if you need it and save the money for college expenses!
We also have the Collin County Health Center located at 825 North McDonald St. here in McKinney that offers low cost or free immunizations for those that have Medicaid, CHIPS, are uninsured or underinsured.
If you do get this vaccine, please either email the documentation to me or bring it in to the clinic so that we can update the record at school and your transcript that we send to colleges after you graduate.
Dual credit students: if you are taking a course on Collin College’s campus- this rule applies to you as well. If you take the course on our Boyd campus, you may complete a waiver or get the vaccination.
Please remember to turn in any proof of vaccinations you receive so we can update your school vaccination record.
