Dear Broncos,

Welcome back to all of our Broncos!! It is going to be the best year yet! I wanted to take a few moments to go over some things to help make the first days smooth and successful.  So when I was growing up, I watched Sesame Street.  Yes, parents I just dated myself!  On Sesame Street every episode there was a word or words of the day.  Our words for the next few weeks are Grace and Flexibility! If all of us can remember those two words, we will have an amazing and successful start to the school year!  Sorry for the laundry list of bulleted points, but I feel that is the best way to communicate all of these important points. Here we go!

  1. School starts at 7:30 and ends at 2:30.  Please leave early and allow time for traffic and weather.  If you are driving your student to school, the only place you can drop them off after 7:00 a.m. is the very front of the school in the front drive.  Trust me when I say you do not want to be in the student parking lot which is the North lot (teenage drivers, need I say more) and the south lot is where our buses are coming in and out.  Also, please, please, please do not drop your student off in the median on Lake Forest or stop on the side of the road or worse yet stop in the middle of the road and just let them out.  Doing that is extremely dangerous especially when the time changes and it is dark outside.  It is a ticketable offense, but more importantly it puts our students in extreme jeopardy of being seriously injured.
  2. On Monday, every student will be required to pick up a new pink schedule in their 1st period class. We will have posters on the walls with our students first period class listed.  Sometimes there are a few things that might have changed from the ones you picked up on Thursday at schedule pickup or Saturday at Bronco Camp.  We are continuously balancing classes and trying to make sure that every student’s schedule is as accurate as possible.  Please remember that we don’t make changes to schedules to accommodate requests for certain lunches, teachers or periods of the day.  Also, we cannot make changes to electives.  Hopefully you will stay in your PAP/AP classes, but if you do choose to drop the first opportunity to do that is at the three week mark.  Of course if there are errors, wrong classes or classes you have taken before, we will get those corrected immediately.  We will have schedule change forms available beginning on Tuesday. Monday we devote our time to registering our students new to Boyd.
  3. Here is a link to the Student Handbook where you can find a lot of information including dress code on Page 28. We will work with our Broncos the first week of school to answer any questions they might have on dress code.  We will have class meetings on Wednesday and Thursday in which we will discuss this information as well. http://www.mckinneyisd.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/2017-18-Student-Handbook.pdf
  4. If your student rides the bus, here is some information from Durham on bus routes: http://www.infofinderi.com/ifi/?cid=D-M04436238560.  Also, we will have several administrators out back at dismissal helping all of our bus riders find the right bus home.
  5. If you need to put money in your student’s lunch account, here is the link to that website: https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/login/getmain?requestAction=home
  6. We have two opportunities this coming week for our Red Nation to come out and cheer loud and proud for our Broncos!  We have a home volleyball game on Tuesday starting at 7:00 in the main gym and we have a home football game at Ron Poe on Thursday starting at 7:00.  Would love to have our stands full of Bronco Pride!

I know that the first week of school can be exciting and overwhelming all at the same time! Enjoy the moments that come during this busy week as their high school years go by quickly! And, yes take that first day back to school picture! Don’t let them tell you no! You will be glad that you did. Please remember we are here to help our Broncos and our parents with any questions that you might have.  Also, please remember the words Grace and Flexibility! We will always serve  you and your student’s needs, however during the first week of school it is a little hectic and it does take a little longer to get back to everyone, but I promise we will.  It is going to be the best year yet and I look forward to meeting all of you and working with you throughout the course of the year.  Go Broncos!

Thanks,

Dr. Peirson
